Dear Future Self

Dear Future Self:

You’ve come so far — You have tasted ‘victory’

You’ve become successful in almost all ramifications concerning you.

I appreciate the fact that you never gave up

On yourself,

On career,

On business,

On love,

On family,

On friends,

I appreciate the fact that you stopped being distracted by unnecessary content. I admire your ‘fore sight’ and ‘focus’

It hasn’t been easy

Remember those rejection mails?,

Those failed proposals?,

Those nights we cried? — real tears on our dirty pillow case — the one we refused to wash due to laziness and procrastination.

Speaking of procrastination, I’m glad it’s all over now. You take charge of situations and grab opportunities without moving it to later days…

Most importantly I’m glad you have taken charge of your emotions.

You act rationally without letting your emotions get the better of you.

I’m glad you know how to forgive — especially those who hurt you emotionally. Those that made you question your very existence. It’s over now! Is it?

A new phase now. New friends to add to the old ones. A new inner circle of progressives.

Cycle of unending life drama

Jide,

Never forget who you are or were!

Don’t let your success shroud your reasoning. It can be so easy to forget how you started.

Remember how hard it was to get what you wanted because you couldn’t afford it.

Remember how you prayed

Remember how you used lanterns to read back in secondary school…

Don’t lose good people.

Please don’t be proud.

Remeber the poor.

Let putting smile on people’s faces become your mantra.

Most of all don’t forget He who was your strength during your period of heartbreak.

Don’t forget He who became your personal therapist when you couldn’t afford one.

Don’t forget God.
